Introduction to the European Language Portfolio

In this section you can find two accredited European language portfolios used during the LENTEC project:
The English version of the Dutch Language Portfolio
The English version of documents related to the Swedish Language Portfolio

The European Language Portfolio (ELP) consists of three parts: a Language Passport, a Language Biography and a Language Dossier. It exists in a large number of versions in different languages. In the LENTEC project a Swedish and a Dutch version were used.

The Language Passport gives an overview of the student's language proficiency. It records qualifications and gives information on partial and specific competencies. For upper secondary school students this is standardized and recognized throughout Europe. The Language Biography describes linguistic and cultural experiences gained in both formal and informal learning environments. The various self-assessment grids are based on the Common European Framework of Reference Levels (Council of Europe, 2001). The students check whether or not they have reached the different "can-do statements" performance levels that are described for the different language skills. In the Language Dossier the students can also document examples of their language production (written assignments, videos or tapes of spoken language presentations, tests and certificates etc) recorded in the Language Passport or Language Biography, and which they deem to be important in reflecting their language proficiency. This enables them to show their language competency to e.g. other educational institutions or presumptive employers. For more information on the European Language Portfolio see:
